# Calculating maximum position size based on stop-loss and stop-out level

#### ice911

ok ive got it
this is the formula
=E9*\$G\$1/(100000*\$J\$1+(1000/\$F\$4)*1000*\$M\$2*\$G\$1) and the result is 2.089

No, that's incorrect. There shouldn't be that `*1000` in the formula.

#### ice911

can you modify my excel sheet

thank you

#### ice911

i think its a problem of configuration in my excel file
because when i divide 1000/105.493 (ask usdjpy) i have got the pip rice 9.47
but when i do like this 1000/\$F\$4 i have got 0.009479302 so i multiply by 1000 to get 9.47

That might be because the cell type is set to Accounting. Try setting it to Number.

the formula is
=E9*\$G\$1/(100000*\$J\$1+(1000/\$F\$4)*\$M\$2*\$G\$1)

Sorry, but to me that formula doesn't make much sense. What are you even trying to calculate there? And what are the inputs you use?

#### ice911

the formula is to hold a position down to 80 pip loss for usdjpy
stop out 50%
leverage 500

There is no limit on risk? So, basically, you just want to have enough margin and to avoid the stop-out?

yes

ok i think i ve found the problem
its a system setting problem
it was , and change to .
now i ve got for 2000\$ E8 2.397 lot size F8

It worked for me just by recalculating the the F8 cell without changing anything.

However, what is the point of such calculations? It appears that each trade risks the entire account to just win some minor profit.

By the way, don't forget to recalculate your H column (profit), because it is using the wrong position size. E.g., the first profit should be 109.36, not 905.35.

can you send me the excel file
