The Pound found support. Overview for 24.08.2017

Two-day sales of the GBP/USD pair stopped; the market is following the news.

The British Pound stopped falling against the USD on Thursday. The current quote for the instrument is 1.2821.

The second estimate of the GDP Growth Rate in the second quarter 2017 showed that the indicator expanded by 0.3% q/q (1.7% y/y) and matched expectations. The components of the report show that despite the overall positive tone, the Household Spending is slowly decreasing. The same can be said about the Business Investment.

Both households and businesses are very “sensitive” structures. Slowdown in rate of growth here may later result in the same slowdown of the United Kingdom’s GDP itself. Of course, this is just one signal. In the second quarter 2017, the Import added 0.4% q/q and 1.8% y/y. In its turn, the Export increased by 1.5% y/y (valid only for goods).

The BBA Mortgage Approvals was 41.6K in July, which is more than the previous reading of 40.4K.

The CBI Distributive Trades plummeted in August up to -10 points. In July, the indicator was 22 points and was expected to fall up to 15 points. Since today’s reading is negative, it may signal some serious problems in sales. It already happened this year, in January, but later the situation got better.

Gfk Consumer Confidence Survey. Germany, 08:00 (GMT+2)
The Gfk Consumer Confidence Survey publication is due at 08:00 (GMT+2) in Germany. The index is expected to stay on the same level of 10.8 points in September. The index is released by the marketing company Gfk and is based on surveys of consumers regarding their level of confidence in the economy of the country. Values above 0 represent optimistic moods and strengthen the EUR. Values below 0 represent pessimistic moods and weaken the EUR.

We’re pleased to inform you about several updates of the R Trader terminal functionality. Among other things, we’ve improved a search box of trading instruments, boosted the terminal performance, and added new opportunities for creating trading robots in the strategy builder.

1. Time indicator
From now on, when creating a trading strategy, you have an opportunity to set time limits in the strategy parameters. For example, you can create a strategy, which will activate orders during the first hour after the US stock market opening. This rule may be applied both separately and in combination with other conditions specified in the strategy builder.

2. Opening in the next bar
This feature will be useful for creating algorithms based on candlestick patterns. By activating "Trading on the next bar" feature in the running strategy, you will disable calculation of signals on every tick inside the bar.

3. Average spread when testing
You have an opportunity to specify the average spread value when testing your strategy using historic data and, thanks to this, get more accurate results.

4. New templates
A set of standard templates have been expanded: we’ve added several new interesting templates for creation of trading robots using the strategy builder.

In addition to that, we’ve expanded and updated "Umstel Helpdesk" section, where you can find answers to your questions about the builder.

Accurate setting and writing down your goals help you focus on trading, optimize your course of actions and avoid psychological overloading thanks to planning possible losses, not suffering them as a force majeure.

Psychologists recommend formulating your goals as precisely and carefully as possible, projecting them on your subconscious and controlling your progress towards them. Systematic investors and traders have managed to secure themselves at the top of the market not just because they own some super system or insider information; the reason is, their goals are based on their long-time experience, their knowledge, technology, psychological stability and skillfull risk and money management. Trading without a clear idea of what, when and how we are planning to reach washes the main part of "plankton" off the market very quickly. The more detailed and realistic your goals are, the lower the risk of losing your deposit.

The problem of setting goals

The main issue about setting goals and tasks in trading is the fact that on the financial market money is both the instrument and the result of work.

If you ask an average trader about their goals in trading, they will stare at you in astonishment as the answer seems obvious: millions (billions), yachts, villas (castles), supercars and other accessories of successful people.
