Hello,

Could you please provide a list of Forex calendar news events that typically result in significant price movements (more than 500 pips) in the Forex market?

For example:

  • USD Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP): Average price movement is 500–1000 pips.
  • USD Consumer Price Index (CPI): Price movement ranges between 700–1200 pips.
  • CHF Consumer Price Index (CPI): Price movement ranges between 400–700 pips.

Similarly, could you please share a list of other high-impact Forex events that cause substantial price movements?

Note : Not all High Impact news create just big price change.

Thank you!

FXStreet Calendar has charts with historic volatility for each news event. It shows 15-minute true range and 4-hour true range following the announcement.
Thanks.

Can you help me understand how to read these values?. How can i assume avg pip change in the market during news 15M or 4H?

There are certain news events that can really shake up the Forex market. Big ones include Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP), which can send the USD flying in either direction, and interest rate decisions from central banks—those are always a big deal. GDP reports tell us how the economy is doing, and inflation data (like CPI and PPI) can cause some serious price movement.

Some news events like PPI, CPI, FOMC and NFP are the major events causing volatility in the marketplace so we need to either stay away from trading these days or better wait for the news to hit the market then trade when the storm is over.

High-impact events like Non-Farm Payrolls and CPI releases often lead to significant market movements. Do you utilize tools like the FXStreet Calendar to analyze historical volatility for these events?

Some of the most impactful forex news events include Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP), CPI (especially USD, GBP, EUR, CHF), and Interest Rate Decisions from major central banks. These can move markets 500–1000+ pips in volatile conditions. Other high-impact events include FOMC statements, GDP releases, PMI data, and Retail Sales, especially when results deviate sharply from expectations. While not all high-impact news leads to huge moves, key releases often affect pairs like XAUUSD, GBPJPY, and EURUSD significantly. Market sentiment and surprise factor play a big role in how much price moves.

I use that historic 15‑minute and 4‑hour true range to set my entry thresholds—it’s been a game‑changer in managing surprise volatility.
