Hi, can some one shed some light on the issue of Volume in the Forex Market,
I asked

Officially there is no actual reported trade volume (being an OTC, decentralised exchange, etc. etc.), however there are two options to use as a proxy variable. Firstly, you can use Forex Futures volume, which is actual trade volume and the differences in price movements between Futures and Spot pairs is negligible. Secondly, you can use tick volume, this works with VSA since in the analysis we are concerned only with gauging activity levels at certain price points and not actual traded volume.

Futures Forex, VSA.. what is, where is, how can I use it.:confused:

Thank You
Regards
Gary

The VSA is easiest to find in a tick chart, not really sure where else it is available. NinjaTrader offers tick charts through Kinetics data, you could build a personal indicator there.

Hi Magician!
Can you see volumes in the platform that you use? If not, you should switch to a platform that does display and supply the volume. Forex trading volumes are the highest turnover than the rest of the financial markets. You can use the futures market to obtain a good estimate (but not necessarily accurate) level volumes.

In the Meta Trader 4 you can open any charts and then Right click on it -> volumes you would be able to see.

That will be able to give you an idea of the liquidity coming into the markets.

Yes, that's correct. This is the largest market in the world and taking a read on liquidity will help you place that trade..

The forex spot market does not show actual volume traded. It shows the number of tick movements instead which gives an indication of volume.

Futures forex provides real volume data as it comes from an exchange. Spot market has no central exchange.

VSA is a very good trading method created by Tom Williams and before him Wyckoff. It is well worth learning about but to be honest is more suited to stocks, indexes, commodities, futures and options than it is to the forex spot market.
