How to Create a Backup from Your MT4

In this guide, you will learn how to create a backup from your MetaTrader 4 platform. Your computer may get infected with virus or you may face problems due to the operating system. In this case, you may want to re-install the entire operating system. So, it is a good idea to make a backup of important folders, like templates and profiles, inside your MT4 folder. You can use it once again, when you re-install the MT4 platform on your computer.

So, where can you locate these folders? You need to click on your menu items. Look for File->Open Data Folder. Now you have a folder view. Copy the templates and profiles folders. Also copy the Experts, Indicators, and Scripts folders from inside the MQL4 folder. Now paste them in a target folder and you can make a backup in an external storage device. This way you can keep these folders safe and reuse them in the future.

It is also possible to transfer the entire trader profile from one platform to another (even if installed on another PC).

It might also make sense to set up some automatic backup process to upload all your important folders, including the MetaTrader's data folders to some safe location.
