The S&P 500 index hit a fresh new high in more than four years’ time and the Nasdaq jumped 2% on Thursday as market participants run to buy higher-yielding assets after a new bond-buying program was announced in Europe and after the U.S. labor market showed signs of improvement. The rally was across the board, with banking and semiconductor equities outperforming the rest of the market. Advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones by a ratio of more than 4 to 1. The Dow Jones index posted it largest gain in two months as Walt Disney Co moved to a fresh new all-time high and last rose 1.75% to $51.68.
