Yes, it is necessary. Even while you are watching your screen for negative market movement, there could be a huge spike that might make you lose more than you imagined within seconds. If stoploss is set, then it will help you close your trade when you can't. This also depends on the broker honoring such order. Whenever I feel like scalping, I use stop loss as a precaution. My orders are always executed.

If you are lazy to put SL, try using at least trailing stops. Though, it is much better to use both.

If you want to stay on a safe side and protect your account you should use stop loss in scalping.

Stop loss is very necessary when using the scalping method. This is just a safety precaution to avoid loosing your capital, even when you are trading live. A little move to the wrong direction can wipe out your account. So stop loss is like a must when scalping unless you are willing to take a big risk
