The Automated Trading Championship 2012 has started today. Only 451 participants (out of more than 3,600 registrants) were admitted — others failed to submit either correct id information or a working expert advisor.

With only 15 hours into the contest, the leading expert advisor (wlagor from Russian Federation) has already more than doubled its starting balance thanks to EUR/USD rally. With more than $11,000 of profit, it has left the rest of contenders far behind.

My own start in this year’s ATC is not very bright. With first two trades ending up as losses (EUR/JPY and EUR/AUD) my expert advisor is currently showing only $1,709 profit and 67th place. This year, my EA is almost the same as back in ATC 2011 — based on simple ATR Trailer, but now it was significantly over-optimized for five currency pairs: EUR/USD, EUR/AUD, EUR/JPY, AUD/USD and GBP/JPY. Additionally, I have tried to minimize the risks associated with the uncertainty of the first positions’ directions by making them different for different currency pairs.
